I have been a parent at Apple Playschools for 3 years. I was moved to join the board a little over a year ago because the organization's commitment to its teachers, our community, the environment and social justice principles inspired me to want to support them in new ways.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created the greatest childcare crisis of our time - for both families and teachers. Apple Playschools has been challenged in new ways as a result of COVID-19 and through the thick of it has shown an unwavering commitment to its principles.
We had to shut down for several months, while continuing to pay our staff. When we opened back up we had to increase staffing ratios, limit class size, purchase essential protective equipment and plan for uncertainty. Despite the financial strain of these times, we have remained committed to providing scholarships for those in our community who need it.
The schools leadership has challenged the board to step up our fundraising efforts to help Apple Playschools navigate this crisis. I am asking my community to join me in my support for Apple Playschools. Your support will help this organization respond to this crisis and continue to put its teachers and community at the center of what it does even during these uncertain and challenging times.
